Day 5 November 3rd I signed up to use the ShowLow Aquatics Center today! Yeah!!!! They have lap swimming in the morning, so next week I'll begin! I am a little nervous, OK, a whole lot nervous, about showing up in a public place in a swimming suit, but I have to do this if I am going to be ready for next summer, right? I can do this!!! At least, I keep telling myself I can. I power-walked 4 miles this afternoon in just over an hour.

Day 4 November 2nd I never exercise on Thursdays, Moe and I serve in the Snowflake Arizona Temple on Thursday till 1:00, and I visit a special friend on Thursday afternoons. She had a stroke 4 or 5 years ago and is mostly home bound and pretty lonely. Anyway, I missed walking yesterday. During the summer there is still enough daylight left to walk in the evenings, but not this time of year. Today I tried power-walking again, and I think I may have shaved a few minutes off my time. Still, it took me just over an hour to go 4 miles, and if I'm going to walk/jog 13.1 miles in under 3 hours I'm going to have to really pick up the pace.

Day 2 October 31/ Halloween I had to walk in the afternoon today, since I had a Stake Relief Society Presidency meeting this morning. (I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and serve in the church's women's organization - the Relief Society.) After the meeting I walked up and down the Southern half of Main Street, handing out flyers advertising my Christmas Window Painting. It was kind of nippy out there, and felt great! By the time I was ready for my walk I had already clocked 2 miles on my pedometer, so I walked 6 miles today. I jogged the first mile of my regular workout, and tried really pushing myself with the other 3. I think I'm getting faster.

Day 1 October 30 Today I tried jogging (shuffling a little fast than usual) for the first mile of my 4 mile walk. I always read a book while I walk. It was harder, but I still managed. I'm reading an Agatha Christie murder mystery, and it helps make the time go by faster. It still took me 1 hour and 10 minutes.

I have the funnest son-in-law, I think. He is an Ironman, many times over, and thinks everyone should join him. Today he called me with the news that he has signed me up to compete in a Half Ironman triathlon next summer! He's nuts, but I have to admit it is kind of flattering. Does he really think I can do it? This is what he posted on facebook: October 29 at 5:58 PM · I find evil joy in signing others up for races. This week I have signed my mother in law up for a Half Ironman in AZ and my wife for another Half with me in Indiana. These women are rock stars. An full Ironman Triathlon consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bicycle ride and a marathon, 26.22 mile run, raced in that order without a break. The race typically starts at 7:00 a.m.; the mandatory swim cut off is 9:20 a.m. (2 hours 20 minutes), the mandatory bike cut off time is 5:30 p.m. (8 hours 10 minutes), and the mandatory ma...
